New Minister Search Is Over!!

Current Minister

Our new minister, Jonathan White and his wife Rebecca are from the Pocono Church of Christ in Bartonsville, Pennsylvania.  They have been married for 4 years and do not have any children other than several pets.  Jonathan achieved a BA in Bible with an emphasis in Preaching from Harding University in 2001.  He was the pulpit minister at Bartonsville since February 2005.  Prior to coming to us, he was also a youth minister.  In addition, Jonathan expends extra time at Camp Manatawny and an annual youth rally hosted by the Ohio Valley Christian University.  Rebecca comes from a large family, her father was a minister in the Church of Christ until retiring 3 years ago.  She has worked in day care and has been very active in the A.I.M. (Adventures in Mission) in Texas.

The Church

The Dover church was begun in the 1950's and has been in continual existence since then. We have elders and deacons and a diverse membership, including long time local residents, Air Force families, and retired military. Our current attendance is about 60.  We have several Bible Studies during the week at different places and times for our members and guests.

Dover

Dover is the capital of Delaware, the "First State". The area population is approximately 60,000. Dover is a growing city and a strong retail center for the state. The city is a very safe and pleasant environment for a family. Two universities are locate here: Wesley College, a Methodist school, and Delaware State University.

The State

Delaware is a small state with a land area of 2,000 square miles and a population of 850,000. As one of the original thirteen colonies, we are rich in American history.

The state is located on the Delmarva peninsula. This peninsula also contains parts of Maryland and Virginia, hence its name. From Dover many of the large cities of the northeast are easily accessible. Washington DC, Baltimore, and Philadelphia are all less that two hours away and New York City is only a three hour drive. However, because we are on the peninsula, we do not have the large traffic volume associated with the famous "Northeast Corridor."

Dover is the county seat of Kent County. Kent is the middle of the three counties in the state both geographically and in land area, but has the smallest population of the three counties.

New Castle county to our north, is smallest in size, but has 62% of the state's population, concentrated in two large towns. Wilmington, our largest city by far, is home to some of the nations main chemical companies including DuPont. Newark is the home of the University of Delaware.

Sussex County, to our south is the largest in land area and is the most agricultural of the three. While it has a slightly larger population than Kent county, it also has almost half of the land area in the state.
